HARRISONBURG, Va. (11/22/1999) –
Dwayne Braxton had two overtime three-point field goals as JMU won its second straight game, 91-79 over Boston University. The Dukes survived an early three-point Terrier shooting barrage and rallied after losing a seven-point second-half lead.
Braxton opened the overtime scoring with a three-pointer and added a free throw a minute later and another three-pointer with 1:46 left to give JMU an 83-76 lead. The Dukes then hit on eight straight free throws.
Braxton finished with career highs of 17 points and 11 rebounds and also had three assists and a steal in 35 minutes. He was one of five Dukes to reach double figures in scoring.
Jamar Perry led JMU in scoring with 18 points while
Tim Lyle added 14 points and a career-high 10 rebounds,
David Fanning 12 points and
Rob Strickland 10 points.
Boston University hit on five of its first six three-point attempts and had eight three-pointers during the first half. However, JMU, which never trailed by more than nine points, got to within 42-39 by halftime and led 56-49 with 13:11 remaining. The Dukes got just three field goals during the next 12:45 but forced overtime on
Mickey Dennis' three-pointer with 26 seconds left.
JMU shot 45.2 percent (28-62) and had a 44-28 rebounding edge. Boston University shot 40.6 percent (26-64) overall after shooting 55.6 percent (15-27) during the first half. The Terriers hit on only two of eight three-point tries after halftime after hitting on eight of 11 attempts during the first half.
Freshman Paul Seymour had six three-point field goals and led Boston University with 18 points off the bench.
