GREENVILLE, N.C. (2/5/2000) –
Rob Strickland scored 11 second-half points and JMU rallied from a 10-point halftime deficit to maintain its position atop the Colonial Athletic Association with a 62-55 victory at East Carolina.
JMU trailed 33-23 after scoring but one field goal during the final 14 minutes of the first half, but a 30-10 scoring burst gave the Dukes a 53-43 lead with 7:19 to play. JMU didn't get another field goal but hit on eight of 12 free throws during the final 2:04 to secure its seventh straight win at East Carolina.
Strickland had all 11 of his second-half points during JMU's 30-10 scoring run. He finished with 16 points and a game-high seven rebounds in his second strong effort of the year against East Carolina. He hit on seven of 11 shots after having a career-high 19 points, seven rebounds and four blocked shots in a 60-57 win over the Pirates Dec. 4.
JMU also got a game-high 18 points from
Jabari Outtz, 12 from
Jamar Perry and 10 from
Mickey Dennis. The Dukes out-rebounded East Carolina 41-35, including 24-13 during the second half. JMU shot only 23.3 percent (7-30) during the first half but hit on 12 of 26 shots (46.2 percent) during the second half to finish with a 33.9 percent shooting mark.
Outtz hit on four straight free throws during the final 2:04 and Perry on four of six. Outtz, who had 22 points in JMU's win over Virginia Commonwealth three days earlier, was named the CAA player of the week.
