BOSTON, Oct. 15, 2006 Northeastern won its third straight match with a 2-0 victory over 23rd-ranked (NSCAA) James Madison in Colonial Athletic Association men's soccer Sunday afternoon at Parsons Field.
The Huskies improved to 5-9-2 overall and 3-4-1 in league play. JMU, which lost its second game in a row, dropped to 8-4-2 overall and  3-3-2 in the CAA.
Junior striker Greg Kilkenny capitalized on a free kick in the 11th minute and Matthew Laning added an insurance goal at 87:45 as the Huskies picked up their first ever win against JMU. Senior co-captain Daryl Brack assisted on both goals for NU.
The Huskies got the first scoring chance of the game in the ninth minute. Â Brack took a free kick from 35 yards out and got the ball to freshman Alexander Volk inside the box. Volk then drove a shot left but JMU red-shirt senior goalkeeper
Kevin Trapp (Charlotte, N.C./Myers Park) slid to make the save.
Northeastern was awarded another free kick in the 10th minute. Â Brack tapped the ball to Kilkenny, who drove a low shot around the wall of Dukes' defenders and past a diving Trapp to give NU an early 1-0 lead.
With three minutes remaining in the half, NU sophomore Nicholas Patrikis crossed the ball to Brack, who headed the ball just wide of the net.
Late in the half JMU senior
Kurt Morsink (San Jose, Costa Rica/IMG) sent a free kick high over the crossbar.
Morsink opened the second half with another point-blank opportunity in the 51st minute. Â After making a move around a Northeastern defender, he kicked the ball hard and low toward the lower left corner of the net. Â Freshman keeper Mahmoud Talaat reacted just in time, diving for the ball and just reaching it to make the save.
Moments later, after Talaat reached to grab a deep throw in by JMU red-shirt senior
Mike Tuddenham (Cincinnati, Ohio/Indian Hill), the keeper collided and flipped over one of his own players. Talaat remained in the game.
The Dukes continued to pressure NU and came very close to tying the game in the 66th minute. Â Freshman
Jean Tshimpaka (Toronto, Ontario/Marc Garneau) streaked down the left side of the field and crossed the ball to a wide open Morsink in front of the net. Â Morsink's initial shot was blocked but junior
Lasse Kokko (Lempaala, Finland/Lempaala) followed it up with another shot that somehow missed the net wide to the left. Â Following the flurry of shots, Mahmoud Talaat appeared to have been shaken up and left the game. Â Freshman Joe Monthey came in to replace Talaat in net.
Monthey was quickly tested, and he got some help from the post. Â Morsink drilled a shot that was deflected past Monthey but the ball hit off the left post and went out of bounds in the 69th minute. Â The Dukes came right back five minutes later. Â Morsink went around a defender and passed the ball to sophomore
Nick Zimmerman (Tampa Bay, Fla./Wharton). Â Zimmerman then cut through two more NU defenders and fed the ball to junior
Tristan Murray (Brampton, Ontario/St. Marguerite d'Youville), who shot the ball low to the left but Monthey made a great diving save.
