HARRISONBURG, Va., Nov. 3, 2006 - Senior Hanna Porterfield (Arlington, Va./Bishop O'Connell) matched her career high with 19 kills as second-place James Madison University took down third-place Northeastern University 3-1 in a Colonial Athletic Association match on Friday night.
JMU (18-7, 12-4 CAA) defeated NU (12-11, 9-6 CAA) by game scores of 30-25, 21-30, 30-28, and 30-17. The Dukes got back on track after having an eight-match win streak snapped in their last outing at William and Mary last Saturday. Altogether, JMU has won 14 of its last 16 matches after Friday?s victory.
JMU never trailed from start to finish in the first game, jumping out to a 4-1 lead and never looking back. After NU pulled within one at 12-10, the Dukes went on a brief run to pull ahead 16-11 and the Huskies got no closer than four the rest of the way as JMU won 30-25. Senior Bayli Stillwell (Steamboat Springs, Colo/Steamboat Springs) and sophomore Michelle Johnson (Los Gatos, Calif./Los Gatos) combined for 10 kills and a .474 attack percentage.

Game four was tied just once at 1-1 as the Dukes methodically added to their lead throughout the game. Junior Allyson Halls (Columbus, Ohio/Olentangy) took serve after a sideout with a 14-9 lead and guided the Dukes to a commanding 19-9 lead. The Huskies managed to pull within 20-14, but JMU scored 10 of the next 13 points to put the match away 30-17. Porterfield this time had eight kills and hit .667.
