ARCHERY TEAM SWEEPS EVERY EVENT AT ADAM WHEATCROFT MEMORIAL TOURNAMENT

HARRISONBURG, Va. April 1, 2006 -- The James Madison archery team dominated the 2006 Adam Wheatcroft Memorial Tournament which concluded Sunday. The Dukes won the individual titles in all four events and took the titles in all three team competitions.
Sophomore Braden Gellenthien (Hudson, Mass./Hudson) won the men's compound, defeating freshman teammate Stephen Schwade (Summerville, S.C./Monroe-Woodbury, N.Y.) by a score of 112-111 in the championship match.
A pair of Dukes also faced off in the bronze-medal match. Sophomore Jedd Greshock (Shenandoah, Pa./Shenandoah Valley) defeated freshman Michael Ashton (Watertown, Conn./Watertown) 116-111.
The Dukes defeated Penn College 228-202 in the team competition.
JMU's men's recurve team took the top three spots, led by sophomore Jacob Wukie (Oak Harbor, Ohio/Fremont Ross), who captured the title with a score of 101-98 win over junior Curt Briscoe (River Vale, N.J./Pascack Valley)
Freshman Nick Kale (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury) was victorious in the bronze-medal match after an exciting tie-breaker win. Kale and Chris Adams (Penn College) were tied with 79s, forcing a shoot-off. Both shot eights with their first arrows, and it came down to a second shot. Adams shot first and scored a nine, but was then topped by Kale, who shot a perfect 10 for the victory.
The women's recurve competition was won by senior Katrina Weiss (Carlisle, Mass./Minutemen Regional), who defeated sophomore teammate Geetha Mathew (Germantown, Md./Northwest) 88-59 in the championship match.
Sophomore Amy McAleese (Stafford, Va.) finished third with a 58-55 win over freshman Jennifer Bishop (Little Neck, N.Y.) in the bronze-medal match.
In women's compound, freshman Brittany Lorenti (Trumbull, Conn.) finished first with a 108-104 victory over sophomore Joayn Fleury (Westford, Vt./Bellows Free Academy Fairfax). Sophomore Jessica Fasula (North Kingstown, R.I./St. Mary's Academy Bay View) won the bronze-medal match with a victory over Michelle Wright of Penn College by a score of 99-96.
