The Dukes won the last two in the three-game series to reclaim second place in the Colonial with an 11-4 record while improving to 22-12 overall. NU slipped to third place with an 8-4 conference mark and fell to 13-12 overall.
Â
Sophomore right-hander Ryan Reid (Portland, Maine/Deering) earned the pitching victory with 6 1/3 innings of work in his eighth start of the season. He struck out nine, walked three and endured a season-high six runs on a season-high eight hits. Reid upped his record to 6-2 despite yielding three home runs.
Â
Junior right-hander Bobby Lasko (Athens, Pa./Athens Area) chalked up his third save of the year with 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief. Lasko, who has recently been delegated as the Dukes' closer, gave up a pair of hits, two walks and sat down two via strikeouts.
Â
Schill's eighth double of the season gave the Dukes a 7-5 lead with one out in the seventh inning. Senior second baseman Michael Cowgill (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay) started the rally with a one-out single through the left side, and junior left fielder Joe Lake (Elkridge, Md./Long Reach) followed with a single to left. Sophomore center fielder Kellen Kulbacki (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) loaded the bases when he pulled a pitch down the first-base line, which was knocked down by the Huskies' first baseman for ultimately a single. All three scored as Schill's double split the defenders in right-center.
Â
Northeastern quickly trimmed the lead to 7-6 as senior center fielder Chris Emaneule doubled to start the inning and scored one out later when freshman left fielder Mike Tamsin double to left.
Â
The Dukes got the run back in the eighth as freshman third baseman Brett Garner (Burke, Va./Lake Braddock) walked and was sacrificed to second by senior right fielder Matt Bristow (Richmond, Va./Mills Godwin). Garner then stole third and scored when the catcher's throw to third skipped away.
Â
Kulbacki accounted for the final run of the afternoon with his 17th homer of the year, a solo blast to left-center in the top of the ninth.
