MEN'S SOCCER LOSES 2-1 TO DAVIDSON

CHARLOTTE, N.C., Sept. 8, 2006 - Davidson managed a 2-1 victory over James Madison in Friday night's opening round of the Charlotte JAKO Invitational Men's Soccer Tournament.
This was the first loss for the Dukes this season, dropping their record to 2-1. Davidson improved its record to 2-3 for the season. This is the first time that JMU has lost to the Wildcats in the last seven meetings between the two teams.
The game was scoreless until senior Kurt Morsink (San Jose, Costa Rica/IMG) recorded an unassisted goal for the Dukes at the start of the second half. Davidson evened the score when Machel Turner took a shot from just outside the box. David Sartorio was credited with the assist for the Wildcats.
The Wildcats won the game on an own goal with 3:44 left in regulation. A cross by a Davidson player deflected off a JMU defender and into the Dukes' net.
JMU red-shirt goalkeeper Kevin Trapp (Charlotte, N.C./Meyers Park) made six saves. The Dukes had 10 shots on goal and a total of seven corners for the game. Davidson recorded a total of 11 shots in the game.
The Dukes continue their play in the Charlotte JAKO Invitational on Sunday, Sept. 10, when they meet Charlotte at 2:30 p.m.
