HARRISONBURG, Va., Nov. 10, 2007 ? Junior Lauren DeTurk (Yucaipa, Calif./Yucaipa) led Northeastern University with 25 kills and 17 digs in a 3-1 women's volleyball win over James Madison University in the Colonial Athletic Association regular season finale for both teams Saturday night in Sinclair Gymnasium.
NU (19-12, 11-3 CAA) defeated JMU (16-12, 7-7 CAA) by game scores of 28-30, 34-32, 30-28, and 32-30. With Hofstra's 3-2 win over George Mason, JMU clinched the fifth seed for next weekend's CAA championship.
Senior Allyson Halls (Columbus, Ohio/Olentangy) had a double-double with 21 kills and 11 digs for JMU. Junior Lauren Miles (Tampa, Fla./Tampa Prep) also had a double-double with 60 assists and 13 digs to go with three blocks. Freshman Lindsay Callahan (Virginia Beach, Va./Landstown) had 17 kills, eight digs, and five blocks for the Dukes. Sophomore Kaitlin McFaddin (Natural Bridge Station, Va./Rockbridge) added 14 kills on .464 hitting and five blocks while junior Kelsey McNamara (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) contributed 13 kills. Senior Jena Pierson (San Antonio, Texas/James Madison) tallied 22 digs. Redshirt freshman Lindsey Drolshagen (Fresno, Calif./Clovis West) tied a JMU season best and set a career high with five service aces.
DeTurk hit .207 with 25 kills and 17 digs for the double-double for the Huskies. Freshman Britney Brown (Edwards, Colo./Battle Mountain) added 10 kills, 28 assists, nine digs, and eight blocks to narrowly miss the rare quadruple double. Sophomore Jessica Tkachuk (Roseville, Calif./Oakmont) added 27 assists and eight digs. Freshman Helene Servillon (San Francisco, Calif./Lowell) tallied 16 digs while junior Brianna Seitz (Atlanta, Ga./Marist) added 12.
Fifth-seeded JMU will face fourth-seeded William & Mary in the first round on Friday at 5 p.m. at host and top-seeded Delaware. The Blue Hens will meet the winner of that first-round match on Saturday at 5 p.m. Northeastern is the #2 seed and will face the winner of the other first-round match between #3 Hofstra and #6 George Mason.
