#5 LACROSSE PULLS AWAY FROM VIRGINIA TECH, 23-15

BLACKSBURG, Va., March 14, 2007 -- The nationally-ranked James Madison (4-1) women's lacrosse team extended its win streak to four games with a 23-15 victory at Virginia Tech (4-4) on Wednesday night.Â
The Dukes entered the game ranked fifth in the coaches poll and seventh by Inside Lacrosse.
Senior Kelly Berger (Columbia, Md./Hammond) and junior Emily Haller (Fallston, Md./John Carroll) recorded five goals each in the win. Junior goalkeeper Kelly Wetzel (Catonsville, Md./Mount De Sales) made 11 saves to extend her double-figure saves streak to five games.
The beginning of the first half was a shootout, as the two teams combined for a total of 14 goals in the opening 20 minutes and an even 7-7 score. Â Neither team held more than a one goal advantage before the final 10 seconds of the half, when Virginia Tech fired a shot into the back of the net to give the Hokies an 11-9 halftime advantage.
Junior Natasha Fuchs (Bay Shore, N.Y./Bay Shore) dished a pass to Haller at the 26:49 mark to start the second half. After a Virginia Tech score, JMU recorded back-to-back goals to even the game at 12-12 with 19:56 left to play.
After a score by Virginia Tech the Dukes went on a seven goal run in a span of 8:40 to take the biggest lead of the game, at 19-13. Â JMU went on to score four of the final five goals in the contest, for a 23-15 victory.
The Hokies were led in scoring by Britt Faulkner with five goals.
JMU's next match is a home game on Tuesday, March 20 (2 p.m.) against #9 Dartmouth.
