FARMVILLE, Va., April 3, 2007 ? JMU senior Diana Meza (Cali, Columbia/Goochland (Va.)) won the Tina Barrett Longwood Invitational held on Monday and Tuesday in a field of 69 players. Meza carded a 74-76-78-228 on the par 72, 6,108 yard course, and two shots ahead of second place finisher Charlotte Williams of Methodist University.
The Dukes finished fifth out of 13 schools with a season low team score of 324-317-321-962. JMU also shot a season low in round two of the tournament with a 317. The previous season low was a 318 at the Ross Resorts Invitational.
Methodist University won the event with a team score of 310-322-312-944 followed by Gardner-Webb (314-309-329-952) and Old Dominion (310-325-323-958).
Along with Meza, senior Kiley Bishop (Oak Hill, Va./Oakton) shot a season low 81-79-82-242 and freshman Mary Stevens (Acton, Mass./Heritage Academy) tied her season low after carding a 91-82-78-251.
Freshman Mary Chamberlain (Dennis, Mass./Suffield Academy) shot an 80-81-83-244 and senior Catelyn Eddy (Manchester, Conn./East Catholic) carded an 89-81-85-255.
Freshman Meagan Hayes (Milwaukee, Wis./DSHA) participated as an individual and shot an 88-94-89-271 for a new season low.
The Dukes finished second in par three scoring, fourth in par four scoring and sixth in par five scoring. JMU also tied for second in birdies made with 16 and finished fifth in pars made with 136.
The Dukes next tournament is from April 7-8 in Daniels, W.V. at the Glade Springs Invitational.
