HARRISONBURG, Va., Sept. 29, 2007 ? The University of Delaware used a pivotal run for a come-from-behind win in the opening game and carried that momentum into the remainder of the match in beating James Madison University 3-1 on Saturday night in Colonial Athletic Association women's volleyball action.
UD (18-2, 3-0 CAA) defeated JMU (10-6, 2-1 CAA) by game scores of 30-28, 30-25, 28-30, and 30-25. The Blue Hens won their eighth match in a row while JMU had a four-match winning streak snapped. The Dukes had also won eight of nine matches before the loss.
JMU led 25-20 in the opening game when Delaware rebounded for a 6-0 run to take a 26-25 advantage. The Dukes came back to regain the lead before the Blue Hens scored four of the final five points for the win.
That opening game win proved pivotal in the match as Delaware then also won game two for a 2-0 lead. JMU managed to get one win in game three, but the Blue Hens built a commanding 10-point lead in game four for the win.
Senior Allyson Halls (Columbus, Ohio/Olentangy) had a season-high 20 kills with a team-best .333 attack percentage. She had nine digs, a season high and one shy of her career high. Halls also had six blocks to move into ninth place in total blocks at JMU with 309, passing Pat Murphy (1986-89) with 304.
Freshman Lindsay Callahan (Virginia Beach, Va./Landstown) had 15 kills on 67 attempts, the most attempts by a JMU player in at least four seasons. She had 13 digs for her third double-double in the last four matches.
Junior Michelle Johnson (Los Gatos, Calif./Los Gatos) had 12 kills and five blocks for the Dukes. Freshman Kay Weninger (Wescosville, Pa./Emmaus) had a career-high 10 kills, eight digs, and three blocks. Junior Lauren Miles (Tampa, Fla./Tampa Prep) had 54 assists, four kills, and eight digs. Senior Jena Pierson (San Antonio, Texas/James Madison) had 25 digs.
