BOSTON, Mass., Nov. 2, 2008 ? Northeastern used a balanced attack to record a 3-0 sweep over James Madison in Colonial Athletic Association women's volleyball action on Sunday afternoon at Solomon Court.
NU defeated JMU by set scores of 25-20, 25-15, and 26-24. The first-place Huskies improved to 15-9 overall and 9-1 in the CAA. The Dukes fell to 11-17 overall and 4-7 in the CAA while dropping their fourth straight game, all coming in road conference action.
Five players had between five and eight kills for the Huskies. Lauren DeTurk had eight kills and 13 digs. Sarah Stein added eight kills and five blocks. NU split setter duties with Britney Brown contributing 15 assists, seven kills, and eight digs. Jessica Tkachuk added 16 assists. Leah Neubeck tallied 12 digs.
Sophomore Lindsay Callahan (Virginia Beach, Va./Landstown) of JMU led all players with 11 kills along with eight digs. Senior setter Lauren Miles (Tampa, Fla./Tampa Prep) accumulated 27 assists with five kills and four digs.
JMU held a slight lead in the early going of set one. NU tied the score at 5-5 and then took the lead for good at 8-7. That was part of a 6-1 run that put the Huskies up 13-8. The Dukes caught up to trail by one at 20-19 before NU reeled off four straight points to go up 24-19. The Huskies closed the set on a Brianna Seitz kill for the 25-20 win.
Northeastern led from start to finish in the second set. The Huskies led 11-9 when a 7-1 run put the set in control at 18-10. After three JMU points, NU closed the set on a 7-2 run for the easy 25-15 win.
Set three started well for the Dukes as freshman Holly Wall (Kaukauna, Wisc./Kaukauna) accounted for four straight JMU points on kills and Callahan also had four kills as JMU built a 15-8 advantage. Northeastern began chipping away and trailed 22-17 when a 5-0 run tied the match at 22-22. JMU held a set point at 24-23 but NU scored the final th
