WASHINGTON, D.C., Dec. 5, 2008 -- Georgetown scored 27 points following James Madison turnovers and eked out a 62-59 win in women's basketball Friday night at McDonough Arena.
The Hoyas improved to 7-1 overall while JMU evened its record at 3-3.
JMU sophomore center Lauren Jimenez (North Bergen, N.J./North Bergen) led all players with 20 points and four blocked shots, tying her career highs in both categories. Redshirt junior guard Sarah Williams (Wilmington, Del./Ursuline Academy) grabbed a game- and career-high 10 rebounds and matched her season scoring high with 11 points. Sophomore guard Dawn Evans (Clarksville, Tenn./Northeast), who entered the game averaging an NCAA-leading 30.0 points, scored 10 points and equaled her season high with seven assists.
Georgetown was led by freshman forward Latia Magee with 19 points, and freshman guard Adria Crawford added 11 points.
After a first half with three ties and six lead changes, the Hoyas scored the last four points of the half and led 31-29 at intermission. Georgetown expanded its lead to seven points (44-37 at 11:29) by outscoring the Dukes 13-8 to open the second half.
But JMU rallied, outscoring the Hoyas 18-10 and taking a 55-54 lead on a three-point play by sophomore guard Courtney Hamner (Manassas, Va./Osbourn Park) with 5:23 remaining. Jimenez scored nine points and Evans had four during the run.
