DUKES 2-0 IN INVITATIONAL SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT

HARRISONBURG, Va., March 14, 2008 ? The James Madison University/Days Inn Invitational Softball Tournament opened on the JMU campus Friday morning. Four Friday games were played, and action will continue with four games Saturday (March 15) and two Sunday (March 16).
JMU posted a pair of Friday wins ? 4-1 over Pittsburgh and 4-3 over Canisius. In other play, Akron scored five runs n the bottom of the seventh to beat Pittsburgh 6-5 and Canisius downed Akron 5-2.
Saturday, Canisius and Pittsburgh will meet at 9 a.m. and JMU and Akron at 11 a.m. to complete round-robin play. At 1:30 p.m. the No. 1 and No. 4 seeds from round-robin play will meet, and the No. 2 and No. 3 seeds will play at 3:30 p.m. Saturday's afternoon's losers will meet in the consolation game at 10 a.m. Sunday, and the tournament title game will be played Sunday at noon.
Game 1: Akron 6, Pittsburgh 5
Katrina Moffett's two-out, RBI single in the bottom of the seventh capped a five-run rally and gave Akron the win in the tournament opener.
The 4-11 Zips used four hits, an error and hit batsman during their final-inning rally. Moffett drove in Krista Hansen, a pinch runner for Julie Boyes, for the game-winning run.
