HARRISONBURG, Va., Sept. 2, 2008 ? Sophomore outside hitter Lindsay Callahan (Virginia Beach, Va./Landstown) poured in 18 kills as James Madison defeated Radford 3-1 in non-conference women's volleyball action on Tuesday night in Sinclair Gymnasium.

JMU (2-2) defeated Radford (3-1) by set scores of 25-16, 25-17, 20-25, and 25-19. The Dukes hit .202 as a team, highlighted by a .290 effort in set four, while the Highlanders were limited to .065 hitting accuracy.Â

The Dukes led from start to finish in the first set, building a lead as large as 12 at 22-10. JMU also led most of the way in set two, taking the lead for good at 6-5 and pulling away from a 13-11 lead to score 12 of the next 18 points.

After JMU pulled out in front 3-0 in the third set, the Highlanders pulled away from a 6-6 tie and grabbed the lead for good, with the final margin of five points being their largest lead of the set. Finally in set four, JMU put together a five-point run to turn a 9-8 lead into a 14-8 lead. The Dukes went on to score four of the next six points while building a commanding 18-10 lead.

Callahan finished with 18 kills on .179 hitting with eight digs. Senior middle blocker Michelle Johnson (Los Gatos, Calif./Los Gatos) added 11 kills on .421 hitting with eight digs. Senior setter Lauren Miles (Tampa, Fla./Tampa Prep) tallied 32 assists with seven digs. Senior outside hitter Kelsey McNamara (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) matched her career high with four aces along with six kills and four digs.

Sophomore Laura Waddell and freshman Megan McWhorter shared the lead for Radford with 10 kills and four digs apiece. Sophomore Kiley Kent totaled 29 assists while junior Lauren Clary led all players with 15 digs.

JMU will next travel this weekend to Berkeley, Calif. for the California Golden Bear Invitational. The Dukes will face Cal, ranked #5 in the AVCA coaches poll, at 10 p.m. Eastern Time on Friday, followed by Saturday matches against UC Riverside and DePaul.
