HARRISONBURG, Va., Sept. 9, 2008 ? After dropping the first set, Liberty pulled out a close second set and went on to record a 3-1 victory over James Madison on Tuesday evening in women's volleyball in Sinclair Gymnasium.

LU (7-0) defeated JMU (2-6) by set scores of 20-25, 25-23, 25-14, and 25-22.

With the score tied 10-10 in set one, JMU went on a 5-0 run to grab a commanding lead, aided by three attack errors by the Flames. Liberty closed to as close as three points on two occasions before the Dukes closed the 25-20 win.

Set two was tight from start to finish with 21 ties and 10 lead changes. Neither team grabbed a lead of more than two points during the set. JMU held a 23-22 advantage after a kill by freshman Holly Wall (Kaukauna, Wisc./Kaukauna), but Liberty scored the final three points for the win.

The Flames vaulted out to a 6-1 lead in the third set and never looked back, maintaining a lead of at least four points the rest of the way.

The Dukes turned the tide in set four and jumped out to an 8-3 lead with four Liberty attack errors. JMU led 16-12 when Karyl Bacon took serve following a JMU service error and proceeded to put the Flames in front 18-16. The Dukes kept it within three points the rest of the way but could not get closer than two with LU recording the 25-22 win to close the match.

Sophomore Lindsay Callahan (Virginia Beach, Va./Landstown) had a double-double to lead JMU with a season-high 19 kills, a .432 attack percentage, and 10 digs. Senior setter Lauren Miles (Tampa, Fla./Tampa Prep) had 42 assists, five digs, three kills, and three blocks. She moved past Amber Jaunrubenis (1990-93) into second place in career assists at JMU with 3,316. Senior Michelle Johnson (Los Gatos, Calif./Los Gatos) had 10 kills and seven digs. Wall compiled 10 digs, six kills, and three blocks while sophomore Sofia Lindroth (Edwards , Colo./Battle Mountain) also had 10 digs.

Sophomore Nicki Scripko led Liberty with 13 kills and 11 digs for the double-double. Junior Chelaine McCarty add 11 kills on .381 hitti
