NU improved to 11-8 overall and 4-2 in the CAA while JMU dropped to 7-15 and 0-6 in the league. The Huskies won by set scores of 25-15, 25-14, and 25-23.
Britney Brown recorded the lone double-double of the match for Northeastern with 12 kills on .526 hitting and 12 assists. Jillian Robinson added eight kills on .727 hitting. The two players combined for 20 of the team's 38 kills and a .600 percentage (20-2-30). Jessica Tkachuk added 18 assists, four kills, and six digs.
Junior Lindsay Callahan (Virginia Beach, Va./Landstown) led JMU with seven kills and seven digs. Freshman Danielle Erb (Tampa, Fla./Plant) added seven kills and four digs. Freshman Megan Wiechmann (Sunland, Calif./Village Christian) totaled 17 assists and four digs.
JMU led in the early rallies of the first set and was still within two at 11-9 when the Huskies recorded a 5-0 run with Robinson at serve, including a pair of aces. NU proceeded to pull away steadily from there for the 25-15 win. Robinson had four kills on four swings in the set.
In set two, the Huskies jumped to a 7-2 start before the Dukes closed it to 8-6. However, the Huskies again turned a two-point lead into a larger margin with a 7-0 spurt, this time with Caitlin Tittl at serve with a pair of aces After a JMU kill, NU kept up the charge with eight of the next 11 points for a commanding 23-10 lead en route to the 25-14 victory.
In the final set, this time the Dukes turned a 14-11 deficit into an 18-17 lead with a 7-3 run. JMU led 19-18 when NU responded with a 4-0 run with Shalter posting a kill and serving three straight points. JMU scored four of the next five points to knot the score at 23-23 after a service error and attack error by the Huskies. However, a kill by Robinson and an ace by Christine Kubik clinched the 25-23 win for Northeastern. Brown had six kills on eight swings in the set.
JMU will travel to Long Island on Saturday for a 1 p.m. Sunday match at Hofstra, which lost to George Mason Friday night, 3-0.
