TOWSON, Md., March 27, 2009 ? Redshirt sophomore first baseman Trevor Knight (Charlottesville, Va./St. Anne's-Belfield) went 4-for-4 with a home run to pace James Madison to an 11-9 win over Towson on Friday afternoon in the Colonial Athletic Association series opener at John B. Schuerholz Park.

JMU improved to 15-10 overall and 3-1 in the CAA while TU dropped to 12-13, 1-3 in the league. The Dukes won for the fifth straight time in the series, having won all four in 2008, including the CAA championship game.

The top three batters in the JMU lineup went 9-for-12 and reached base 12 times altogether. Knight ran his season average over .400 with a 4-for-4 day with his fifth home run of the season, three RBIS, and four runs scored.

Sophomore shortstop David Herbek (Haymarket, Va./Battlefield) was 3-for-4 with his fifth home run, three RBIs, and two runs scored. Junior center fielder Alex Foltz (Mathias, W.Va./East Hardy) was 2-for-4 and scored twice.

Sophomore Turner Phelps (Roanoke, Va./Lord Botetourt) allowed nine runs on 10 hits with eight strikeouts in six innings but received enough run support to improve to 5-0 on the season and 13-0 in his career.

Sophomore Kevin Munson (Roanoke, Va./Cave Spring) tossed three scoreless innings in relief to pick up his fifth save and drop his season ERA to 0.74. He struck out two and allowed two hits.

Zach Umberger took the loss for the Tigers after allowing seven runs on nine hits with four walks in four innings. He fell to 2-1 on the season.

Towson's offense came from the middle three hitters, who each went 3-for-5 and drove in eight runs total. Matt Collins drove in four and hit his third homer of the season. Jason Stifler and Chris Wychock each went 3-for-5 with two RBIs.
