TOWSON, Md., March 28, 2009 ? Towson jumped out to a 12-0 lead after three innings and held on to record a 16-11 win over James Madison on Saturday afternoon in the second game of a Colonial Athletic Association series at John B. Schuerholz Park.

TU improved to 13-13 overall and 2-3 in the league. JMU dropped to 15-11 on the season and 3-2 in the CAA. The Tigers' win snapped a five-game winning streak for the Dukes in the series.

The game was moved up to an 11 a.m. start due to anticipated weather conditions. It turned into a four-hour marathon that featured 27 runs on 28 hits with seven home runs, eight pitchers and 429 total pitches.

Wes Shifflett earned the victory in relief with 3 2/3 innings allowing two runs on five hits with five strikeouts. Tyler Austin started and allowed three runs on five hits with six strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings.

Sophomore Alex Valadja (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Catholic) took the loss for the Dukes after lasting just 1 1/3 innings and allowing seven runs, three earned, on just three hits. Five pitchers threw altogether for JMU, throwing 222 pitches.

Right fielder Austin Harclerode was 3-for-4 for Towson. Third baseman Steve Yarsinsky, first baseman Matt Collins, and second baseman Chris Wychock each drove in three with Collins and Wychock hitting homers. Shortstop Gary Helmick reached base four times with a pair of hits and two walks.

For the second straight day, all nine JMU starters had a hit in the game. The Dukes hit eight doubles and three homers for 11 extra-base hits, compared to four for the Tigers. Junior center fielder Alex Foltz (Mathias, W.Va./East Hardy) was 2-for-5 with two RBIs, a home run, and a walk.
