FARMVILLE, Va., March 5, 2009 -- The #17/17-ranked (Inside Lacrosse/IWLCA) James Madison women's lacrosse team rallied for a 17-11 win at Longwood Thursday afternoon.
JMU improved to 3-0 while Longwood dropped to 1-2.
The Dukes scored the game's final seven goals to rally from three goals down for the victory.
JMU scored the game's first goal as sophomore Caitlin Sullivan (Kennesaw, Ga./Harrison) netted her first career goal off a pass from senior Jaime Dardine (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) just 24 seconds into the match.
However, Longwood outscored JMU 5-1 in a span of just under six minutes to take a 5-2 lead with 21:34 on the clock. The Lancers got three goals from Karli Brentlinger and then stayed ahead of the Dukes or tied until midway through the second half.
A 4-1 JMU scoring run, paced by three consecutive goals by redshirt junior Kim Griffin (Jarrettsville, Md./North Harford), tied the game at 6-6 at the 15:07 mark of the first half.
But the teams then traded goals for the remainder of the half until Brentlinger converted a free-position attempt with 36 seconds left before intermission, sending her team into halftime leading 9-8.
