WILMINGTON, N.C., April 25, 2009 ? JMU got a pair of complete games victories from senior right-handers Meredith Felts (Greenville, N.C./J.H. Rose) and Jenny Clohan (Ashburn, Va./Broad Run) as it swept a doubleheader over UNC Wilmington at Boseman Field in Wilmington, N.C. on Saturday. The Dukes won game one 4-1 before taking game two 5-0.
JMU improved to 28-14 overall and 8-8 in the Colonial Athletic Association, while the Seahawks dropped to 13-28 and 8-9 in conference. With the sweep and a pair of losses by Delaware to George Mason on Saturday, the Dukes moved into fourth place in the CAA.
Clohan dominated the Wilmington lineup in game two, allowing just three infield singles as she threw her fifth shutout of the season. The senior walked two and struck out six in seven innings pitched and hasn't allowed a run in her last 15.2 innings pitched.
Madison jumped on UNCW starter Amanda Aditays for two runs in the first inning in game two. Junior first baseman Shannon Moxey (Church Road, Va./Mills Godwin) led off the game with a double to left field before JMU loaded the bases on a fielder's choice and a single by sophomore designated player Katie Spitzer (Broadway, Va./Broadway). Senior catcher Julia Dominguez (Sterling, Va./Park View) made it 1-0 on a sacrifice fly in foul territory in medium left field, allowing Moxey to slide in just ahead of the throw from left fielder Katie Kisner. A wild pitch by Aditays made it 2-0 as senior third baseman Amber Kirk (Hamilton, Va./Loudoun County) raced home on the miscue.
Dominguez did not have a hit in game two but impacted the game with a walk, a run scored and an RBI.
The Dukes took advantage of a Wilmington error in the third inning to add three unearned runs. JMU did all of its damage with two outs as Dominguez started the rally with a walk ahead of back-to-back singles
