Nobels' Game-Winner Carries Field Hockey by Longwood in Overtime

FARMVILLE, Va., Oct. 13, 2011 – Freshman midfielder Ysaline Nobels (Dion-Valmont, Belgium/College du Christ-Roi) scored 3 minutes, 37 seconds into overtime to lift the James Madison field hockey team to 1-0 win over in-state rival Longwood at the Longwood Athletics Complex in Farmville, Va., on Thursday night.

JMU is now 4-2 in overtime games this season and 6-7 overall. Longwood's winning streak was halted at three games, dropping it to 8-8 on the season.

Nobels goal was her second career goal, with both coming as overtime game-winners. She finished with two shots, one of which was on goal. Freshman forward Taylor Bailey (Fredericksburg, Va./Stafford) led all players with a career-high five shots, including four on net while redshirt sophomore forward Courtney Versfeld (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe/Dominican Convent) registered three shots on net.

Longwood was paced offensively by Stacey de Grandhomme with two shots and one shot on goal. Caitlin Smith and Amanda Babineau added one shot each and Olga Knop picked up a defensive save.

Senior goalkeeper Margo Savage (Virginia Beach, Va./Princess Anne) earned her second shutout of the season and the sixth of her career to take the win. She is now 5-6 on the season after making two saves in 73 minutes, 37 seconds in net.

Kaye Goulding took the loss for the Lancers to drop to 7-8. She made eight saves and allowed one goal.

The Dukes held a 15-4 advantage in shots and a 9-1 lead in penalty corners attempted. The Lancers made nine saves to Madison's two.

The game's only goal came on a rebound as freshman midfielder Dana Allaband's (Elkton, Md./Rising Sun) initial shot was turned aside by Goulding. The ball found its way to Nobels who knocked into the back of the goal to finish off the game.

JMU is back in action on Sunday at 1 p.m. as it hosts the nation's No. 2 team, North Carolina at the JMU Field Hockey Complex.
