HARRISONBURG, Va., March 2, 2013 -- James Madison (3-0) got off to a fast start and went on to beat Fairfield (2-3) 13-8 in women's lacrosse Saturday afternoon at University Park.

The Dukes scored six times in the game's first 10 minutes while holding the Stags without a shot. JMU converted all eight of its shot attempts in the opening half and was up 8-4 at intermission.

JMU was led in scoring by junior Julianne Giles (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron) with four. Redshirt senior Casey Ancarrow (Jarrettsville, Md./John Carroll) and sophomore Ali Curwin (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland) were the Dukes' other multiple-goal scorers with three apiece.

Fairfield got three goals each from senior Chloe Mangan (Sayville, N.Y./St. Anthony's) and junior Addie Reilly (Locust Valley, N.Y./Portledge).

In the first half, Curwin tallied all three of her goals, Ancarrow added two, and Giles, sophomore Steph Finley (Media, Pa./Sacred Heart) and junior Amy Roguski (Sykesville, Md./Liberty) each scored once.

Another Giles goal 4:48 into the second half put the Dukes ahead 9-4. However, Fairfield mounted a comeback, scoring three times in a span of 4:08, to close the gap to 9-7 with 19:13 on the clock.

JMU, however, ran off four consecutive scores, getting two goals from Giles, one from Ancarrow and another from freshman Jenna Mertz (West Chester, Pa./Villa Maria Academy), to build its lead to an insurmountable 13-7 with 1:43 to play.

JMU sophomore goalkeeper Schylar Healy (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) made four saves. Her Fairfield counterpart, senior goalkeeper Katie Keenan (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh), did not make a stop.

JMU held a 22-17 advantage on shots.

Other statistical leaders for JMU included redshirt sophomore Kaci Starkloff (Bel Air, Md./Bel Air) and Mertz, each with three draw controls, and Giles with three caused turnovers. Starkloff, sophomore Lexi Cross (Marriottsville, Md./Liberty) and senior Kelsey MacDonald (Glyndon, Md./Bryn Mawr) each finished with three ground balls.

JMU is on the road for its next three games, starting with a March 6 matchup at 10th-ranked Penn State.

NOTES:
* JMU is off to a 3-0 start for the third time in the past four years.
* JMU's Casey Ancarrow's three-goal, one-assist game gave her a career total of 180 points (130 goals, 50 assists). She moved from tied 12th to 11th place on JMU's career points list. Just ahead of her is Natasha Fuchs ('08, 182) in 10th and Sue Peacock ('84, 184) in ninth.
