HARRISONBURG, Va., Sept. 21, 2013 – Freshman right side Janey Goodman (Powhatan, Va./Powhatan) collected her third all-tournament accolade after finishing the JMU Invitational with 45 kills on .361 hitting to help Madison earn a split on day two of the tournament at Godwin Hall/Sinclair Gymnasium, Saturday.

The Dukes defeated Campbell in the first match of the day 3-1 by set scores of 25-19, 25-14, 22-25, 27-25 before falling to Cleveland State. CSU defeated JMU 3-1 by set scores of 25-19, 26-24, 24-26, 27-25. The Dukes finished non-conference play with a 5-8 record while Cleveland State went 2-1 on the weekend to improve to 10-3. Campbell dropped all three matches on the weekend to fall to 8-7.

Joining Goodman on the All-Tournament team was Wake Forest's Sophia Dodd, Kristin Grissom and Kylie Hargreaves, CSU's Christina Toth and Maggie Hannon and Campbell's Mary Crema. Dodd was the Most Valuable Player after leading Wake Forest to a 3-0 record and a tournament championship.

Game Two

Goodman paced three Dukes in double figures with 20 kills on .395 hitting. Junior middle blocker Lizzy Briones (Siloam Springs, Ark./Siloam Springs) conturiged 10 kills and seven blocks while sophomore outside hitter Meghan Niski (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East) had 12 kills and 13 digs for her fifth double-double of the season.

Sophomore setter Sarah Patterson (Roanoke, Va./Hidden Valley) came off the bench to supply 29 assists, five digs, two aces, a kill and a block. Sophomore libero Sierra Hahn-Ventrell (Chevy Chase, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) supplied 10 digs and two service aces.

The Vikings hit .342 as a team with five players finishing with nine or more kills. Outside hitter Grace Kauth led the way with 17 kills and six digs while middle blocker Maggie Hannon had 16 kills, and two blocks. Outside hitter Christian Toth and Kerry Winchester each had 11 kills and hit over .400 and middle hitter Kelly Kiger had nine kills on .692 hitting to go with eight blocks.

Setters Dayna Roberts and Annie Djukic combined for 56 assists and 19 digs. Libero Nikki Holmes led all players with 24 digs.

CSU outhit JMU .342 to .206 and had an 11-8 advantage in blocks. The Dukes won the serving battle with five service aces to the Vikings' three.

Game One

Goodman recorded her third 20-plus kill match of the season, finishing with 20, to lead the James Madison volleyball team to a 3-1 win over Campbell in the second match of the JMU Invitational Saturday afternoon.

Goodman's 20 kills came on .357 hitting as she committed five errors in 42 attempts. Niski finished with a double-double with 16 kills and 10 digs. She hit .263 in the match and had two assists and a service ace. Briones added 13 kills on .303 hitting, five blocks and two digs while sophomore outside hitter MacKenzie Kleespies
