Taylor Reynolds Named CAA Defensive Player of the Week

RICHMOND, Virginia -- James Madison redshirt-sophomore cornerback Taylor Reynolds (Newark, Del./Newark) has been named the Colonial Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced today. This is the first time that he has won a league weekly award this season and the ninth for the Dukes in the 2014 season.
Reynolds was instrumental in the Dukes' resounding 55-20 thumping of the then-No. 14 Richmond Spiders in Robins Stadium. The cornerback had eight total tackles (seven of them solo) along with two interception returns for touchdowns, two forced fumbles for touchbacks and two additional pass breakups. Reynolds got the second touchdown for Madison when he intercepted a Michael Strauss pass at the JMU 45 and returned it 55 yards to put JMU up 14-0 midway in the first quarter. Then in the second quarter, he punched out a fumble on a rush that rolled 25 yards into the end zone and was recovered by senior safety Dean Marlowe for the touchback, ending the scoring threat. Early in the third quarter, Richmond was headed to the end zone on a run that Reynolds punched out from behind at the JMU 1 and rolled through the back of the endzone for another touchback. Reynolds then added his second interception of the game later in the third, picking off a pass at the UR 46 and returning it for a school-record second interception return for a touchdown to put the Dukes up 41-20.
Currently on a six-game winning streak and closing in on a possible FCS Playoff Berth. JMU closes the regular season Saturday, Nov. 22 when it hosts CAA newcomer Elon at noon. The team will recognize its 2014 senior class in a pregame ceremony, with tickets available by contacting the JMU Ticket Office at 540-568-3853 or online at JMUSports.com/tickets. Students can begin reserving their tickets for Elon today, as the dorms and dining halls will stay open until 5 p.m. on Nov. 22 to accommodate the game.
