WILMINGTON, N.C. – The James Madison volleyball team defeated UNCW 3-1 (24-26, 25-18, 25-19, 25-17) in Colonial Athletic Association action on Sunday afternoon. The Dukes improved to 18-3 (8-0 CAA), while the Seahawks fell to 15-5 (6-2 CAA).
Junior right side
Janey Goodman led the Dukes with 19 kills, earning her 1,000th career kill in the victory. Senior outside hitter
Meghan Niski recorded her sixth double-double of the season and second in as many contests with a dozen kills and 16 digs. Senior setter
Sarah Patterson continued a stellar run of play with 47 assists and 10 digs, while senior outside hitter
Kate Whitmire tallied a season-best 16 kills with a .353 hitting percentage.
After dropping the first set in extra points, Madison took control in the second frame with an 11-4 run that gave them a 17-12 lead. JMU maintained the lead for the remainder of the set, winning seven of the last nine points.
Madison also took advantage of a momentum shift in set three, as the Dukes won six straight points after their first timeout of the game to take an 18-12 lead. JMU halted a UNCW comeback late in the frame, winning the four of the last five points, capped by a kill by
Kelly Robertson, to take a 2-1 lead.
In set four, Madison jumped out to an early 11-5 lead, capitalizing on several Seahawk errors. The Dukes kept the lead for the rest of the match, extending the lead to 20-10 at one point. Goodman closed out the match with a kill from Patterson.

Janey Goodman earned her 1,000th career kill with 19 kills against UNCW. The right side hitter recorded 327 kills in her freshman campaign followed by 369 as a sophomore. Goodman is currently has 314 kills in the 2015 season averaging 4.19 per set.
NoteworthyThis is the third straight game where the Dukes won after losing the first set. They currently have a 5-3 record when dropping the first set, with four of those wins coming in conference play.
