HARRISONBURG, Va. – The James Madison men's soccer team took 18th-ranked UNCW through two overtimes that resulted in a 0-0 draw on a rainy Saturday night at University Park.
The Dukes' (2-6-2) defense held strong for all 110 minutes of full time, denying the Seahawks (6-1-2) a single shot on goal. JMU mustered 10 shots, four of which forced saves from UNCW junior goalkeeper Sean Melvin.
The final save by Melvin came in the 108th minute when senior defender
Bjarki Adalsteinsson headed a cross from freshman midfielder
Thomas Shores, but the attempt was directed straight to the goalkeeper.
Senior forward
Eric Schmidt led the attack with three shots, one being on goal. UNCW captain and senior midfielder Colin Bonner matched Schmidt's shot output with three of his own.
Due to heavy rains in the area, the game was played on the turf practice field located in the University Park soccer complex.
