GAME #30
Game Plan
- James Madison begins the final week of the regular season with its road finale at UNCW on Wednesday night at Trask Coliseum. The Dukes will be seeking their sixth straight CAA win and a season split with the Seahawks as both teams enter the final two games in a four-way tie for first place with Northeastern and William & Mary.
- The game can be seen on the Seahawk Digital Network and CAA.TV. It can also be heard on the JMU/nTelos Wireless Broadcast Network and on the local airwaves at WSVA AM 550 and 92.1 FM beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Scouting Report
- JMU enters the final week on a five-game win streak, sitting 18-11 overall with an 11-5 mark in the CAA while the Seahawks are 16-11 on the year and 11-5 in CAA play. Both teams are tied atop the CAA standings with two games to play as Northeastern and William & Mary also sit at 11-5 heading to the mid-week matchups. JMU is 7-4 this season on the road, including a league-best 6-2 in CAA road contests and UNCW has been strong at home, sporting a 9-2 record.
- This is the 68th meeting all-time between the programs and UNCW holds a slim 34-33 lead, including an 18-12 advantage in Wilmington. However, JMU has won its last three games at UNCW. Last time the two met, the Seahawks downed the Dukes 77-65 back on Feb. 4.
- Last time out for the Dukes, Yohanny Dalembert scored a career-high 21 points and added eight rebounds to lead them to a 68-61 win over College of Charleston on Sunday afternoon. Despite being outshot by a narrow percentage, JMU outscored the Cougars 24-8 from the free throw line and held a 35-29 rebounding advantage. Winston Grays provided three treys and 13 points off the bench and Jackson Kent added 10 to help the Dukes win their fifth conference game in a row.
- The Dukes last won five straight conference games in the 2010-11 season (Jan. 3-15), a season which they finished 21-12 overall. The last time JMU won at least six games was during that same season when they won nine in a row from Dec. 11 until Jan. 15.
- It's been over two decades since JMU triumphed in six straight CAA games, however, with the last coming in the 1993-94 season when it started conference play 6-0. That season was capped off by Kent Culuko's game-winning three at the buzzer in the CAA championship game against Old Dominion.
- This season, the Dukes are a perfect 16-0 when leading with five minutes to play and 16-1 when shooting a better field goal percentage. JMU is also 14-1 when outrebounded its foes, 10-2 when dishing out more assists and has compiled a 9-2 record in games decided by one or two possessions. It is also 11-1 when holding opponents to less than 70 points.
- Ron Curry leads the Dukes as he averages 13.2 points per game, including the league's fourth-best 16.1 points per game in CAA games. He is third in CAA play in 3-point percentage (.411) and is also third in assists both on the year (4.2) and in league play (3.9). He has scored in double figures 20 times this year and has accrued seven 20-point games, including a career-high 27 in the road win at Hofstra.
- For UNCW, Addison Spruill is sixth in the conference in scoring at 14.3 points per game and also ranks fourth in rebounding (6.5) and eighth in shooting percentage (.449) this year. In UNCW's win at JMU on Feb. 4, he scored 18 points and had seven rebounds and four assists.
- The Dukes return home to the Convo to host Hofstra in Saturday's regular-season finale at 4 p.m. in a televised game on Comcast SportsNet, The Comcast Network and SportsNet New York
