JMU Men's Golf Former and Current Compete in Delta Dental State Open

HARRISONBURG, Va.- JMU men's golf alumni Jay Woodson, Fielding Brewbaker and Faber Jamerson along with current team member Connor Walters competed in the Delta Dental State Open of Virginia July 16-18. The three-day, 54-hole tournament was played at Ballyhack Golf Club in Roanoke, Va.  The Virginia State Open consisted of 144 competitors, 70 amateurs and 74 professionals. After the first 36 holes, the field was cut to the low 60 players and ties for the final 18.    Woodson tied for second place, shooting 6-under (70, 69, 71), to snap a four-year streak of Virginia Open wins. Brewbaker shot 5-under (73, 70, 68) placing fifth, Walters tied for a 14th-place finish and Jamerson completed the event tied for 24th.  Walters, a rising redshirt junior, averaged 74.29 strokes over the 2014-2015 season for the Dukes. He finished the Open tied for 14th, shooting a total 217. He shot a 68 on the first day of competition, followed by 71 on the second day and a 78 over the last 18.  JMU's Chris Kapsak competed in the first 36 holes of the Open, posting 82 strokes on Thursday and 79 on Friday. He finished the 2014-2015 season averaging 76.56 strokes for the Dukes.  Kapsak and Walters will both return to action alongside the rest of the Dukes on September 6 as JMU opens the 2015-16 schedule at the Golfweek Division I Program Championships in Pawleys Island, S.C.
