JMU Rallies to Down Georgetown 3-1

HARRISONBURG, Va. – The James Madison volleyball team rallied from a set down, opening the JMU Invitational with a 3-1 (16-25, 25-16, 25-15, 25-15) win over Georgetown on Friday night at Sinclair Gymnasium. The Dukes improved to 8-3 on the year while the Hoyas dropped to 4-7.
The four-set match marked the Dukes' first comeback of the season after dropping the first set 25-16. JMU utilized a nine-point run late in the second set, followed by an early eight-point run in the third, to take a 2-1 match lead after winning the sets by scores of 25-16 and 25-15, respectively. The Dukes controlled the fourth set early to clinch the match with a 25-15 triumph over the Hoyas.
Junior right side hitter Janey Goodman led three Dukes in double-digit kills with 19 and added 10 digs, her fifth double-double this season, while freshman outside hitter Bryn Recker notched 10 kills and 13 digs for her second double-double. Sophomore libero Taylor Austin led JMU's back row with 26 digs and tied her career high with four aces.
The Dukes return to action for day two of the JMU Invitational on Saturday with a 10 a.m. match against N.C. Central, followed by a 7 p.m. meeting with Norfolk State.
