NEWARK, Del. - James Madison volleyball swept Delaware (25-19, 25-18, 25-20) in the Dukes' second Colonial Athletic Association match of the season Friday night. The Dukes advanced to 12-3 (2-0 CAA), while the Blue Hens fell to 8-6 (0-1 CAA).
Senior Meghan Niski and freshman Bryn Recker each posted double-doubles, tallying 10 kills apiece to go along with 10 and 11 digs, respectively. JuniorJaney Goodman led the Dukes offensively with 11 kills, and liberoTaylor Austinhad a team-high 15 digs. Senior Sarah Patterson recorded 34 assists to help JMU out-hit the Blue Hens .306 to .180.
In the first set,Patterson served three straight points to push JMU out to a four-point lead, highlighted with an ace that extended the lead 11-7. JMU never relinquished the lead en route to a 25-19 win, capped by a Goodman kill. The Blue Hens looked to turn the tide in set two, jumping out to a 6-3 lead, but the Dukes quickly turned in a 10-point run led by server Goodman to put Madison up 13-7. Despite Delaware closing the gap to four (14-10), a six-point run pushed JMU out to a 21-12 lead before winning 25-18.
Delaware led early in the third set, but back-to-back kills by Niski brought JMU from behind to tie the set before Kelly Robertson pushed the Dukes into the lead. The Blue Hens and Dukes traded points, with JMU never leading by more than three, until kills by Goodman and Robertson increased the lead to a set-high six points at 19-13. From there, UD fought to stay alive but was stopped at 24-20 by Patterson's match-ending kill.

RISING THE RECORD BOARDS Senior setter Sarah Pattersonhas moved up the JMU record boards to seventh place in career assist, passing Molly Ball with 2,150 (1988-91). Patterson currently has 2,255 assist in her career and is chasing Kari Kopnicky who sits in sixth place with 2518.
