HARRISONBURG, Va. – A double-overtime goal sunk James Madison men's soccer in a 1-0 loss to Northeastern on Saturday at Sentara Park.
Saturday was Senior Day and before the match JMU honored its graduating class of goalkeeper Kyle Morton, midfielder/defender Callum Hill and forward Connor Coward.
The Huskies' Kevin Carvalho took a free kick from the right wing that found Ackim Mpofu, who trapped with the ball with his chest, turned, and scored the game-winning goal in the 103rd minute.
JMU held much of the possession throughout the game, as Northeastern only registered three shots on goal. The Dukes generated 20 shots, but with the Huskies playing compact on defense, just four were on net. Freshman forward Niclas Mohr had a game-high four shots.
JMU fell to 1-9-3 on the season and 1-3-2 in Colonial Athletic Association play. The Huskies improved to 4-9-0 and 2-4-0 in league play.
COACH FOLEY ON THE SENIORS
"I remember when I first saw them play years ago, and think about how far they've come. Coaching can be about wins and losses, but it's really rewarding to see players develop into young men."
UP NEXT
The Dukes play their final home game on Wednesday, Oct. 19 against Longwood at 7 p.m. Their next CAA game comes in a week at Drexel on Saturday, Oct. 22.
