HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - Hofstra scored four unanswered goals on Friday night, saddling James Madison with a 4-1 loss in Colonial Athletic Association women's soccer action at Hofstra Soccer Stadium.
Â
JMU dropped to 8-9 (5-3 CAA) in the loss, while the Pride stayed in contention for the CAA Tournament with a 9-7-1 (3-5 CAA) mark. The Dukes were outshot in the contest by a 22-15 margin, marking the first such occurrence since an August 28 match against No. 18 Virginia Tech.
Â
Senior forward
Ashley Herndon put the Dukes ahead early for the third consecutive match, turning in a low cross from freshman
Haley Crawford in the second minute to give JMU a 1-0 lead. The tally marked Herndon's 10th of the season and 36th of her career. Crawford's cross gave her a CAA-leading nine assists on the season.
Â
Hofstra would turn things around inside of 10 minutes, however, picking up goals in the eighth and 10th minutes to go back on top, 2-1. Despite the opening flurry, that scoreline would carry the two sides into halftime.
Â
After the break, senior midfielder
Allie Bunner just missed levelling things after just 27 seconds, breaking free inside the box, but her shot drew a diving parry from Pride goalkeeper Friederike Mehring. Hofstra would capitalize, scoring on a free kick in the 56th minute before sealing the match with a 78th minute goal in traffic off a corner kick.
Â
In all, Hofstra placed nine shots on frame to JMU's five. Freshman
Hannah McShea tallied five goals in the loss, while Mehring racked up four of her own.
