SERIES HISTORY
Saturday marks the 39th meeting all-time between JMU and William & Mary and 36th straight season the teams have met. The Dukes lead the Tribe 21-17 in a series dating back to 1979. The programs have played each season since 1981. After falling in nine of the first 12 meetings, JMU has won 18 of past 26 games.
The Dukes are 12-5 against W&M at home. JMU has won five straight at home in the series. W&M last won in Harrisonburg on Nov. 13, 2004, with a 27-24 victory, but the Dukes came back in the NCAA semifinals to triumph 48-34 in Williamsburg en route to their first national championship.
Last time they met, William & Mary rallied in the final minute as Kendell Anderson scored on a two-yard run with 44 seconds left to give the Tribe a 44-41 win last Halloween.
Making his first career start, Bryan Schor passed 17-for-27 for 227 yards and a touchdown while rushing for 64 yards and a score. Cardon Johnson ran for 134 yards and a touchdown. Rashard Davis reeled in four catches for 125 yards, all in the first half.
ABDULLAH ADDED TO POTY WATCH LIST
On Tuesday, Khalid Abdullah was named to the Watch List for the STATS FCS National Offensive Player of the Year. Abdullah has turned in four straight 100-yard rushing games and is one of the nation's top backs, ranking second in rushing touchdowns (8) and third in yards per carry (7.73). He is seventh in rushing yards per game (120.6) and scoring per game (10.6) and has scored in every game this year.
This is the third straight season a JMU offensive player has made the list, as Vad Lee was on the Watch List a year ago and was a finalist for the former Walter Payton Award in 2014, finishing fourth in the final voting.
SCOUTING WILLIAM & MARY
The Tribe enters Saturday's game with a 2-3 record, including a 0-2 mark in CAA play. W&M fell at home to Elon two weeks ago, 27-10, followed by a 21-12 setback at New Hampshire last Saturday.
It averages 19 points a game while conceding 24 to its foes. Through five games, the Tribe has averaged just under 330 yards of offense per game, being outgained by just 10 yards. The offense is balanced, going for just over 175 passing yards and just shy of 154 on the ground.
Without Albert Funderburke due to injury, Kendell Anderson will be heavily relied upon. Last week Anderson rushed for 168 yards in the UNH loss. Steve Cluley has passed for 872 yards and five touchdowns this season, but has struggled with nine interceptions, completing just 54 percent of his passes. Of his targets, DeVonte Dedmon leads the way with 21 catches for 375 yards and three scores while Jack Armstrong and Daniel Kuzjak combine for 260 yards and the other two receiving TDs.
Jimmye Laycock is the long-time head coach for the Tribe, holding a 240-177 overall record, now in his 37th season. He has coached in every game of the JMU-William & Mary series, going 17-21 in those contests.
RUSHING ATTACK KEYS JMU TO WIN
JMU nearly turned in its second 400-yard rushing performance of the season against Delaware, tallying 398 yards and five touchdowns on the ground. Abdullah led the way with 159 yards and two touchdowns on just 10 carries. Schor had 103 yards and tied his career high with three scores, and Johnson added 93.
The Dukes ranks second nationally in team rushing, averaging 342.0 rushing yards per game. That total is just over four yards back of the FCS leader - The Citadel.
