#7 Dukes Readies for Top-10 Showdown at #6 Richmond

HARRISONBURG, Va. – With a record-breaking scoring performance in a Homecoming victory over Rhode Island, No. 7 James Madison prepares for a battle between ranked opponents as the Dukes make the trek to No. 6 Richmond on Saturday, Nov. for a 3:30 p.m. kick. The 2016 season is presented by CarMax.
Saturday's contest will be televised on Comcast SportsNet Plus.

SERIES HISTORY
Saturday marks the 34th meeting all-time between JMU and Richmond in a series dating back to 1981. UR owns an 18-15 record versus JMU, though the Dukes have outscored the Spiders 816-771. JMU is 8-8 all-time in Richmond, which includes a 55-20 victory two years ago after Taylor Reynolds had two pick-sixes and two forced fumbles resulting in touchbacks.
Last time the teams met, Richmond handed JMU its first loss of the year with a 59-49 win in Harrisonburg on Oct. 24, 2015. Earlier that day, ESPN College GameDay aired from JMU's campus.
In that game, UR gained 720 yards of total offense as Jacobi Green rushed for 236 yards and five touchdowns, while Kyle Lauletta passed for 415 yards and two scores. For JMU, Vad Lee passed for 294 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 124 yards and three scores in what would be the final game of his career. Bryan Schor played the final quarter, passing for 73 yards and a touchdown and scoring another on the ground.
SCOUTING RICHMOND
The Spiders enter Saturday's game with a 7-1 record, including a 4-1 mark in CAA play. In the season opener, UR beat FBS-foe Virginia, 37-20, and since their week three loss at Stony Brook, the Spiders have won five straight, including four in CAA play.
UR averages 31 points per game while conceding 19.8 to its foes. Over the past two games, Richmond has outscored Villanova and Elon 58-7 and has scored 31 or more points in six of eight games this year.
Kyle Lauletta has passed for 2,194 yards and 16 touchdowns with eight interceptions. Brian Brown has 835 receiving yards and seven touchdowns, while Tyler Wilkins has 388 and three scores. Deontez Thompson was inserted as the starter at running back following a pair of other injuries. He has run for 357 yards and six touchdowns as a redshirt freshman. The defense is led by Tafon Mainsah's three interceptions after David Jones' season was cut short due to injury.
Danny Rocco is in his fifth season at the helm of the UR program and is 40-19. He previously coached Liberty for six seasons and has a career 87-39 ledger. He's led Richmond to two conference titles and three playoff appearances. He was a finalist for national coach of the year in both 2012 and 2015.
THE RACE FOR A CAA TITLE
The month of November is shaping up to be a literal fight to the finish, as JMU sits atop the CAA standings at 5-0 while five other squads are within one game.
Sitting a half game back is 5-1 New Hampshire, while the four teams at 4-1 are Richmond, Villanova, Stony Brook and Maine. JMU has already notched wins at Maine and New Hampshire and plays at Richmond and Villanova in the next two outing. Since the league schedule expanded to an eight-game conference slate in 1988, only seven teams have gone unbeaten, most recently in 2014 when New Hampshire won the league title.
IT'S A SCHOR THING
He's started just 12 games in his career, but Bryan Schor has already reached a career top-10 list at JMU.
Following his four-touchdown day at New Hampshire (Oct. 15) and career-best five-touchdown performance versus Rhode Island (Oct. 29), Schor now ranks tied for 10th in career passing touchdowns (22). Schor has thrown 15 touchdown passes this year, which is just one off a tie for 10th in single-season history.
RICHMOND TIES
This week marks the return to Robins Stadium for three members of the JMU coaching staff.
Defensive coordinator Bob Trott held the same position at UR for six seasons (2010-15), as he guided the defense to the league lead in interceptions. Linebackers coach Byron Thweatt spent eight seasons with the Spiders (2007-14), leading the linebacking corps to eight All-CAA selections. Jeff Hanson spent nearly three decades coaching at his alma mater (1971-79, 1989-06, 2008-09). Hanson, along with Thweatt, were part of UR's 2008 national championship team.

All 11 regular-season games, as well as any potential postseason matchups can be heard online on the JMU Sprint Broadcast Network or on airwaves at WSVA 550AM and 92.1 FM. Dave Thomas is entering his second season as the play-by-play man for the Dukes and is joined alongside color commentator Clint Estes at home, while Curt Dudley provided analysis on the road. For select road games, Estes will join Thomas and Dudley for sideline duties.
LOOKING AHEAD
JMU completes its regular-season road slate on Saturday, Nov. 12 when the Dukes battle No. 10 Villanova at 1 p.m. It will be the final regular-season home game for long-time Villanova Head Coach Andy Talley.
