HARRISONBURG, Va. – High Point scored six of the game's first seven goals and James Madison was never able to climb out of the hole, falling 15-9 in non-conference women's lacrosse action on Sunday afternoon at Vert Stadium.

The Dukes dropped to 1-3 this season while the Panthers notched their first win, improving to 1-2.

Danielle Harmeyer played the final 39 minutes in the cage, making five saves on 11 shots faced. For HPU, Emily Meier scored a game-high four goals while Allie Foard added three scores. Â Molly Andrews stopped 10 JMU shots as she picked up the win in net.

Both teams produced 24 shots, while the Panthers held a 21-19 advantage in shots on goal. JMU controlled the draw by a 14-12 margin and tallied 24 ground balls, to HPU's 19.

The Panthers surged out to an early 6-1 lead a little less than 12 minutes into the game but the Dukes answered back with back-to-back goals by Lawler and Romesburg 28 seconds apart, trimming the deficit to 6-3 with 16:37 left in the half. HPU answered back with the next two and extended the lead to 11-6 at the break.

HPU played the possession game in the second half and led by as many as seven twice while the Dukes never drew closer than six down the stretch.

ROMESBURG KEEPS SCORINGDuring the first two games of the four-game road trip,
Elena Romesburg found her flow in the offensive third of the field. After scoring three goals at Connecticut, she scored two more on Sunday at HPU. She has more than doubled her single-season best, notching three scores as a rookie.
