HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison women's tennis won five straight singles matches to secure its fourth consecutive team win, taking down George Washington 5-2 on Saturday afternoon at Hillside Courts.
After losing the doubles point 2-1 and the opening singles point, JMU won the final five points of the day, including four in two-set singles matches. Junior
Timea Guibe was the decisive fourth point of the afternoon, overcoming a first-set loss (1-6) to Sara Grubac at No. 2 singles with back-to-back set victories (6-3, 6-2) for the team win.
Guibe went 2-0 on the afternoon, teaming up with sophomore
Kimmy Herrock for a 6-2 No. 2 doubles victory over Grubac and Victoria Kogan. In singles, Herrock tied the match at 2-all with her two-set win (6-2, 6-4) over Taylor Nederlander at the No. 3 position.
Freshman
Emma Petersen got the scoring started for the Dukes on Saturday, dropping Kogan 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4 singles. Junior
Rebecca Harris gave them their first lead of the day at 3-2 with a two-set win (6-4, 6-2) over Egle Jakuciunaite at No. 6 singles. Herrock, Petersen and Harris are all tied for the team lead with 11 dual wins in singles this spring.
Sophomore
Dylan Owens closed out the day with straight 7-5 wins at No. 5 singles over Allison Hansen.
JMU returns home for Colonial Athletic Association action on Tuesday, March 28. The Dukes host Delaware at Hillside Courts at 2:30 p.m., entering the match with a 3-0 mark in league play.
