JMU Remains Undefeated in CAA with 6-1 Win over Delaware

HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison women's tennis remained undefeated in Colonial Athletic Association action on Tuesday afternoon with a 6-1 win over Delaware at Hillside Courts.
The Dukes are 4-0 in CAA play and 13-4 overall with their fifth consecutive win. The Blue Hens are 0-2 in league play and 8-4 overall this spring.
Sophomore Kimmy Herrock and juniors Timea Guibeand Rebecca Harris each went 2-0 on the day, picking up wins in both singles and doubles. Herrock and Guibe teamed up for the first win of the afternoon, a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles, while Harris partnered with freshman Abby Amos for the 6-1 win at No. 1 doubles to clinch the day's first point.
Guibe gave the Dukes a 3-0 lead with her second win of the day, a two-set victory (6-1, 6-2) over Denny LaMachia at No. 2 singles. She has won four straight singles matches and six of her last eight completed contests to up her dual record to 9-4.
Herrock, who also has four straight wins, represented the final JMU point of the afternoon. She came back from a 6-3 first-set loss to defeat Annie Jaskulski in a 10-5 tiebreak in the third set after knotting her No. 3 singles match with a 6-2 second-set win. The sophomore is tied for the team high in dual wins at 12 with Harris and freshman Emma Petersen.
At No. 6 singles, Harris battled to a two-set victory (7-5, 7-6(1)) over Draga Sabotic. Petersen earned her team-high fifth straight singles win when she rolled to a two-set decision (6-0, 6-1) against Sara Komer at the No. 4 position.
Junior Rachel Nelson was the clinching point of the day, taking down Amanda Studnicki 7-5, 6-1 at No. 1 singles.
JMU puts its five-match win streak on the line on Saturday, April 2, when the Dukes welcome Elon for an 11 a.m. match at Hillside Courts. In their only previous meeting as conference foes, the Phoenix walked away with a 4-3 win.
STREAKS ON STREAKS JMU has won five consecutive matches this season, the longest streak of wins for the Dukes since a five-match stretch in 2014. The Dukes have also defeated the Blue Hens in five straight meetings.
UP NEXT JMU returns home for the fourth straight home match, taking on Elon at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 2.
