Â
Quoting Coach Ikenberry"It was probably the ugliest baseball game in the history of ugly baseball games today. It came down to them getting hits off our closer, while they brought in their guy and he did a pretty good job of stopping our offense. I thought we had a chance to win it in the bottom of the ninth and it didn't happen and then they won it in the top of the 10
th. We brought the winning run to the plate in the bottom of the 10
th, but they had their guy on the mound and he did his job. It was a crazy game and they got their hits when they needed to while we didn't."
Â
Carroll Day at the BallparkThe weekend series features a unique experience for one family as JMU's roster includes redshirt senior
Chad Carroll and senior
Tyler Carroll while UMBC is home to the youngest brother, redshirt sophomore Mitchell Carroll. The three brothers from Oakton, Virginia, served as honorary captains for their respective teams and joined the coaches to exchange lineups cards in the pregame meeting with the umpires.
Two-Out HittingWith errors playing a major factor in the contest, UMBC was able to take advantage of the extra outs as the Retrievers went 12-for-21 (.571) with two outs in the game. JMU, meanwhile, was 1-for-12.
Â
Notes- Sisk became the fourth player in JMU history to collect four doubles in a contest, matching Matt Browning (2010 vs. George Mason), Matt Bristow (2006 vs. Towson) and Mike LaCasse (1974 vs. Emory & Henry)
- With his single in the 10th inning, Parrott extended his hitting streak to 10 games, each game of the 2016 season thus far
- Only 12 of the 24 total runs in the game were earned
- UMBC stole 11 total bases in the contest, led by the five from Lachance
