HARRISONBURG, Va. – Floreal Pedrazo has joined the James Madison men's soccer program as an assistant coach, Head Coach Tom Foley announced on Wednesday.
"I'm very excited to join a program with great tradition that is heavily invested in by all involved and is going in the right direction," said Pedrazo. "The overall package really drew me here. JMU has amazing facilities, the competition we face is excellent and I'm looking forward to getting started."
Pedrazo comes to Harrisonburg from the University of Montevallo in Montevello, Alabama where he has served as an assistant coach for men's soccer since 2013, helping the team to a conference championship. He also led the Alabaster Competitive Soccer Club in Alabama as the head coach of the U15 and U18 teams and spent a year as the Montevello women's tennis head coach in 2014.
"We're very excited about Floreal joining the staff," said Foley. "First and foremost, he's a great fit with myself and coach Zazenski to create the culture we're looking for to be successful moving forward. His soccer knowledge, experience and recruiting acumen as both a player and a coach will be very beneficial to our program."
Hailing from Germany, Pedrazo gained playing experience with the U16 German National team and Offenbacher Fussball Club in the German 3rd Division from 1998-2003 before coming stateside and attending Birmingham-Southern College. There, he claimed a place on the Big South All-Freshman team and All-Big South First Team while winning back-to-back regular season championships in 2004 and 2005.
After earning his Bachelors of Science in business administration from Birmingham-Southern, he attended Georgia State University in Atlanta, Ga., where he captained the team and acquired a Masters of Science in sports management.
His professional career then continued in Germany before turning his focus to coaching. Pedrazo holds a soccer coaching UEFA B-License and is fluent in German, Spanish and English.
