MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – No. 7 James Madison defeated the College of Charleston, 5-1, on Sunday afternoon at Patriots Point Athletics Complex. With the series sweep, JMU improves to 34-3 (9-0 CAA), while CofC falls to 23-18 (3-6 CAA).
Senior catcher
Erica Field set the tone with a double off the left field fence in the first at-bat of the series finale. Sophomore infielder
Morgan Tolle followed with an RBI single to right field and junior outfielder
Taylor Newton hit a sac fly to center field, giving JMU a 2-0 lead in the first.
Charleston answered with their only run of the game off two hits in the bottom of the first.
In the third, senior outfielder
Hannah Hayes led off with a double to left field and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt. After reaching on a walk, Tolle stole second while Hayes stole home to put the Dukes up, 3-1.
James Madison tacked on two more runs in the fourth with an RBI double from junior infielder
Madyson Moran and an RBI single from Field.
In the final three innings, JMU only allowed one hit and retired the Cougars in order in two of the frames.
Sophomore (21-2)
Megan Good earned the win, allowing only four hits across seven complete innings.

JMU returns to action Saturday, April 16, in a CAA doubleheader against Drexel beginning at 11 a.m in Philadelphia, Pa.
