Good's One Hitter Powers JMU to Series Sweep Against Towson

HARRISONBURG, Va. – No. 7 James Madison earned a Colonial Athletic Association softball sweep with a 3-0 victory against Towson on Sunday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Park. The Dukes improved to 30-2 (6-0 CAA) while the Tigers fell to 22-10 (2-4 CAA).

Sophomore Megan Good (19-1) picked up the win with a one-hit, complete game performance. She tallied a season-high 13 strikeouts, which was one shy of her career best.

Sophomore infielder Morgan Tolle sparked a two-run third inning with a single to right field with two outs. Good and senior infielder Jailyn Ford drew walks on the ensuing at-bats to load the bases and junior outfielder Taylor Newton ripped a two-RBI single to right, plating both Tolle and Good.

JMU extended the lead with another run in the fourth after senior catcher Erica Field hit an RBI single to right field, bringing home redshirt freshman Kassie Brammer, who was pinch running for sophomore Alyssa Buddle. Buddle kicked off the frame with a single to the pitcher before Brammer advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by senior outfielder Hannah Hayes and a bunt single by junior infielder Madyson Moran.

The Dukes head to Blacksburg, Va., on Wednesday, April 6 for a doubleheader against in-state rival Virginia Tech. First pitch is slated for 5 p.m. at the Tech Softball Park.

Yesterday, the Dukes defeated the Tigers 16-0 in five innings and 11-6 in the nightcap for a 3-0 weekend. James Madison out hit Towson 26-10 with seven home runs and four doubles.

Good racked up all three wins in her 15 innings of work, holding the Tigers to a .115 batting average.
