PAWLEY'S ISLAND, S.C. - The James Madison women's golf team closed out its first tournament of the 2016-17 season on Tuesday afternoon, taking home a sixth-place finish at the Golfweek Program Challenge at Caledonia Golf & Fish Club.
The Dukes continued their momentum from Monday afternoon, posting a final round of 11-over 295 to finish their week with a score of 902 and close to within two strokes of fifth-place Jacksonville (900) and just seven shy of fourth-place Jacksonville (895) in the 16-team field.

Maddisen Cox maintained her week of stellar play, carding an even-par 71 and jumping three spots to finish fourth (+2, 215) in the 80-person event. The three-day performance, which set a new 54-hole career best for Cox, marked the second top-five of her JMU career.

Laura Gomez-Ruiz and freshman
Morgan Cox finished their week on a high note, firing a pair of rounds at 3-over 74 on Tuesday. Gomez-Ruiz finished her week tied for 20th (+11, 224), the 11th top-25 finish of her career, while Cox finished in sole possession of 37th in her first collegiate event.
Freshman
Lauren Comegys also closed out her first tournament at JMU in fine form, notching her second straight round of 5-over 76 to finish tied for 38th at 19-over 232, while junior
Gabrielle Weiss (75th, 252) ended her week on a high note with a 7-over 78.
