The Dukes are also 15-8 in league openers as a member of the CAA (formerly Atlantic 10 and Yankee). The Dukes are 7-5 in road openers, including a 6-5 mark as a member of the CAA. They have lost the previous two CAA road openers (at Villanova '14; at Delaware '13) with the last win coming on Sept. 22, 2012 at Rhode Island - a 32-7 triumph.
This is JMU's fifth conference opener in New England, having gone 2-2 in the previous northern openers.
SCOUTING MAINE
The Black Bears enter Saturday's conference opener with a 0-2 record, having played a pair of FBS opponents to open the season, to go along with their week-three bye. Maine nearly pulled the upset during the opening weekend, falling 24-21 at Connecticut, before dropping a 45-3 decision at Toledo.
UM averages 12.0 points per game while allowing 34.5 to its foes. After two contests the Black Bears have been outgained 439 yards to 272, on average. Jaleel Reed leads the skilled players with team bests of nine receptions for 180 yards and a touchdown this year.
Joe Harasymiak is in his first season as head coach at Maine after serving as an assistant and coordinator over the past five years. A defensive-minded coach, he has led the UM defensive backs and linebackers in Orono.
ABDULLAH RUNS UP RECORD BOARD Khalid Abdullah has been nothing short of consistent throughout his career. He is the 14th player in JMU history to rush for over 2,000 yards and has done so with only six 100-yard performances.
Adding in his 116-yards at North Carolina, Abdullah has 2,141 career rushing yards, which is just 167 shy of cracking the top-10 at JMU. He also has 23 rushing touchdowns, a mark which ranks tied for ninth. He also has a pair of receiving scores and his 25 total touchdowns ranked tied for eighth all-time at JMU.
STARTING STRONG AT UNC
JMU scored on its first three drives of the game, amassing 222 yards of total offense for a 21-14 lead at ACC-foe North Carolina on Sept. 17. UNC ultimately rallied for a 56-28 win in Chapel Hill.
Khalid Abdullah rushed for a game-high 116 yards and two touchdowns while Bryan Schor passed for 218 yards and a touchdown, to go with one rushing touchdown.
With the game tied at 14-14, Schor found an open Cardon Johnson for a 68-yard touchdown pass. It was the longest pass and catch in both of their careers. Domo Taylorled the receivers with a career-high six receptions for 66 yards. JMU in all tallied 495 yards of total offense and outrushed UNC 209 to 173.
