MACON, Ga. - Senior
Maddisen Cox moved up a spot on Tuesday, posting her first top-five finish of the year in a tie for third to lead the James Madison women's golf team at the Idle Hour Collegiate Invitational, hosted by Mercer at the par-72, 6,166-yard Idle Hour Club.
Cox posted a final-round 4-over 76 on Tuesday morning, closing out the final tournament of the fall just one stroke behind the leaders at the 70-player event, finishing at 223 (+7). The performance marked the highest finish of any JMU golfer thus far in 2017-18.
As a team, the Dukes closed their week in sole possession of seventh at 939 (312-312-315), just one stroke behind sixth-place North Florida in the 11-team field.
Senior
Laura Gomez-Ruiz notched her fourth top-20 finish of the season, wrapping up the tournament in a tie for 20th at 232 (+16; 76-78-78), while sophomore
Lauren Comegys was tied for 49th at 241 (+25; 77-84-80). Senior
Gabrielle Weiss (87-78-81=246) and junior
Katie Turk (88-81-83=252) close out the JMU scoring in tied for 59th and 64th, respectively.
Playing as individuals, sophomore
Morgan Cox (79-78-85=242) and freshman
Ella Woods (79-87-87=253) finished, respectively, in sole possession of 53rd and 66th.

The Idle Hour Collegiate closed out the Dukes' five-tournament fall campaign 2017-18. JMU will open the spring portion of the season with the 2018 Texas State Invitational in Kyle, Texas on Feb. 12-13.
