#16 JMU Stifles Drexel 7-1 in CAA Opener
10/6/2017 9:35:00 PM | Field Hockey
HARRISONBURG, Va. – Behind the hat trick of sophomore Lisa Lejeune and a second consecutive multi-goal game by junior Corey Mayer, No. 16 James Madison field hockey stifled Drexel 7-1 in the Dukes' Colonial Athletic Association opener.
Â
The Dukes (8-3, 1-0 CAA) limited the Dragons (5-8, 0-2 CAA) to just six shots while taking 29 of their own, a season high, en route to the most JMU goals in a game since a 12-0 win over Towson at home last season (Oct. 2, 2016).
Â
HAT TRICK HIJINKS
Sophomore Lisa Lejeune had a career-high three goals in the victory, marking the first hat trick of her career. This is also the first hat trick since Miranda Rigg had three goals against New Hampshire last season (Sept. 16, 2016).
The three goals also gave Lejeune a career-best six points for the contest.
DOUBLE TROUBLE
Junior Corey Mayer tied her career high of two goals just a game after she set it, scoring twice in the opening 7:34 of tonight's game. She scored four goals in a 33:41 span of game play between the second half at Richmond and the first half against Drexel.
 Â
HELPING HAND
Senior Hannah Hall had two assists on Friday night, pushing her season total to nine (tied her personal season best). She also pushed her career total to 24 overall, which is 13th-most in JMU history.
