NASSAU, Bahamas - Senior guard
Joey McLean racked up a career-high 21 points on Saturday afternoon, but James Madison dropped a hard-fought 73-65 decision to Weber State in the second game of The Islands of the Bahamas Showcase at Kendal Isaacs National Gymnasium.
McLean went 6-of-12 from the field to lead the Dukes (1-3) in scoring, hitting a pair of three-pointers and all seven of his free throws, but Weber State (3-1) held JMU to just 23.1 percent (6-of-26) shooting in the second half as the Wildcats held multiple comeback attempts at bay.
Junior guard
Stuckey Mosley posted his fourth straight double-digit performance with 13 points, while senior forward
Ramone Snowen added nine points and five boards while freshman guard
Matt Lewis chipped in eight points across 20 minutes.
Neither team led by more than six until Weber State used three straight three-pointers to open a 12-0 run that put the Dukes in a 35-26 hole with 4:22 to play before halftime. In the second half, JMU never trailed by more than 14, but couldn't get within eight after the 11:39 mark as the Wildcats held off the Dukes.
QUOTING COACH ROWE
"We came out with great energy today against a good Weber State team, but had too many gaps in our execution. We battled back again, but we have to be more consistent on both the offensive and defensive ends if we want to win these types of games."
