WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - James Madison fired the second-lowest round of any team on Sunday afternoon, climbing up another spot on the leaderboard to capture fourth place after the final round of the Colonial Athletic Association Women's Golf Championships, hosted at the par-72, 6,113-yard Blue Heron Course at Ford's Colony Country Club.
Â
The Dukes posted a 12-over 300 on the final day of competition, vaulting Towson to take home fourth place at 915, just seven strokes behind third-place UNCW and eight back of second-place College of Charleston.
Â
The performance, which closed out the Dukes' season, improved a pair of spots over both last season's sixth-place finish and JMU's seeding prior to the tournament.
Â
Junior
Laura Gomez-Ruiz continued to climb the leaderboard on Sunday, posting an even-par 72--her fifth round of par-or-better this season--to jump seven spots and close her championship tied for fourth at 7-over 223 (76-75-72).
Â
Gomez-Ruiz balanced a pair of bogeys with back-to-back birdies on holes six and seven to garner All-Tournament honors, the first such accolades for JMU since Shabril Brewer finished tied for fifth at the 2014 edition of the championships.
Â
Sunday saw freshman
Morgan Cox complete the biggest two-round swing of any competitor on the weekend, as she bounced back from Saturday's 87 to fire a 2-over 74 and climb six spots on the leaderboard into a tie for 29th.
Â
Freshman
Lauren Comegys joined Gomez-Ruiz in the top 10 in her first CAA Championship, closing with a 4-over 76 that put her tied for ninth at 226 (72-78-76). Junior
Maddisen Cox (t-24; 237) closed the Dukes' scoring with a 6-over 78, while sophomore
Katie Turk came in tied for 27th at 239 (79-78-82).
Â
Delaware posted back-to-back rounds of 7-over 295 over the weekend to capture its second consecutive CAA Championship, besting runner-up College of Charleston by 11 strokes to close the tournament at 32-over 896.
Â
Lyberty Anderson of UNCW took home medalist honors, holding off second-place Laura Fuenfstueck by a stroke with a 2-over 74 that put her at even-par 216 for the weekend.

QUOTING COACH SARGENT
"I'm so proud of the weekend that these girls had. They battled back over and over and turned in a great final round against tough conditions. They grew a lot as players this year and I'm excited to have everyone back and working towards next season."
