HARRISONBURG, Va. – Continuing its relationship with web provider
SIDEARM Sports, James Madison Athletics launched a redesign of JMUSports.com aimed at delivering a responsive web layout across all platforms with a focus on multimedia presentation.
The refresh is the first version of JMUSports.com to feature responsive technology, which allows a website to automatically align across computer, tablet and mobile platforms without the need for a separate mobile version or a standalone app.
"SIDEARM has established itself as the national leader in web hosting for collegiate athletics, and we are thrilled to continue our relationship with them," Assistant A.D. for Communications
Kevin Warner said. "Nearly 75 percent of all web traffic to JMUSports.com originates from mobile devices or tablets, so the responsive technology is a significant step in delivering the best user experience."
In addition to the responsive design, the new site delivers improved multimedia integration with the use of a media wall format, replacing the previously standard feature article image. The media wall concept allows for greater visibility of more key content while also delivering content across multiple platforms, including articles, photo galleries, videos, Twitter and Instagram.
Other features of the redesign include:
- An improved overall visual layout with stronger use of white space and a cleaner menu structure
- A revamped facilities page with larger photos, improved structure of information, more variety of images and improved mobile display
- Improved presence for recruiting with a front page section intended to visually emphasize the strengths of JMU Athletics such as facilities, academics, student-athlete focus, postseason success, championships and professional opportunities
- A cleaner scoreboard interface with quicker access to upcoming games and results at the top of the page, quick links to tickets, live coverage and other pertinent details and a composite schedule much easier to locate
- Instagram accounts established for all sport programs and integrated into the media wall
