HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison volleyball capped off the Tropical Smoothie Invitational with a 3-1 win against Drake on Saturday evening inside Sinclair Gymnasium.
The Dukes improved to 6-0 on the year, winning the match by sets scores of 19-25, 25-15, 25-23, 25-15 to take first place in the four-team invitational. Drake finished in second with a 2-1 record, while Cornell took third with a win Saturday afternoon over Hampton, which rounded out the invitational.
MATCH ONE NOTES
- The Dukes had 10 aces in the match, led by sophomore Sarah Martin with three.
- Sophomore Briley Brind'Amour and junior Bryn Recker led JMU with eight kills apiece.
- JMU held the Pirates to a .065 and .000 hitting percentage over the first two sets, respectively, while the Dukes hit .253 for the match.
- Senior Taylor Austin led all players with 15 digs.
- Reeana Richardson (13) and Kyndall Nicholas (10) led the Lady Pirates with double-digit kills.
MATCH TWO NOTES
- The Dukes tallied 60 kills in the match led by all-tournament MVP Byrn Recker and Briley Brind'Amour who had 17 kills each.
- JMU had an impressive 15 total blocks, the last time the Dukes had 15 or more blocks was in December of 2016 against Coastal Carolina with 16.
- The reigning CAA Defensive Player of the Year, Taylor Austin had 35 digs in the match, tallying 50 on the day and 64 total over the weekend.
- Overall, the Dukes had 91 digs in the match and held the Bulldogs to a .000 hitting percentage in the second set, while JMU hit .271 for the match.
